Paul Wong b. 1954, Prince Rupert, BC

The vortex was an experimental technique explored by early video artists in the 1960s. The design was created by pointing a live camera back onto a video screen, generating a feedback loop that created spirals. ART HOUSE SWIRL is a long-term, temporary art activation that celebrates Wong’s very first video art exhibition at the Burnaby Art Gallery in 1974 while also paying homage to the architectural style of this modernist ’60s house.

The Art House Swirl was installed by muralist, Col Urrutia with support from Dado Designs and Judge Painting Co.

The DLG is an Art House that provides opportunities for emerging and established artists to create meaningful, thought provoking and experimental work. Founded by the Burnaby Arts Council, the DLG hosts 10 – 12 exhibitions per year, and acts as a host location for performances, concerts, and a variety of arts initiatives from partnering organizations.

The Burnaby Arts Council (BAC) was established in 1967 to fund raise for a Burnaby based public art gallery. Proud to have celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2020, the BAC has continued with its mandate of supporting, promoting and expanding the arts throughout Burnaby and beyond. Further, the Council plays a pivotal role in providing leadership to emerging artists and established art groups alike; showcasing their creative talents and providing opportunities for greater involvement in community culture events and projects.
